This ministry was started in May 2021 after Lydia Koranteng was ordained into ministry in November 2020. Together with my husband, Abraham Koranteng we prayed as to what direction to go in ministry and we were led to Exodus 22:22-23 [Do not take advantage of the widow or the fatherless. If you do and they cry out to me I will certainly hear their cry] NIV and James 1:27 [Religion as God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: To look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world] NIV

Lydia Koranteng and her husband, Abraham Koranteng have for a number of years been involved in and supporting needy and deprived folks in the West Dangbe district in Ghana. In February 2021 we received a message from a friend [Prophet Jonathan Kugblenu] seeking an organisation in the UK that works with and supports widows.

We felt this was God telling us to focus on and look more seriously at a widows ministry. We liaised with him and had discussions and by the grace of God we were able to launch the ministry via zoom on May 1st 2021.

Our purpose and aims for the ministry is to bring hope to the hopeless, empower them to look beyond their current circumstances; support them in various ways including financial, material, guidance and advice in their respective small scale businesses to enable them lead a meaningful and fruitful life.

Prophet Jonathan Kugblenu, our partner in Ghana initially conducted a needs analysis project of 65 widows, enumerating their current circumstances and immediate needs. We then spoke to friends, family and church members and were blessed with donations – clothing, shoes, beddings and toys which we shipped to Ghana.

On 1st of May 2021, at Victory Community Baptist church in Dodowa in Ghana the ministry was launched with about 100 in attendance including 65 widows. All the widows were presented with gifts, 20 of whom received monetary assistance to support them in enhancing/expanding their already existing small scale businesses to help sustain their families. The ministry is open to all widows irrespective of religious background and we are pleased to say at least 30 of the 65 are Muslims and have been keen participants in all subsequent zoom meetings.

All the zoom meetings are conducted in their own local languages. Being able to communicate with them in their own languages –Hausa, Twi, Dangbe, Eve and Ga has been the highlight of the meetings so far.
